This is the shoreline at Mason Neck, a wildlife refuge off of Occoquan Bay, which joins the Potomac River.I used a vertical panorama to capture the scope of the scene. When you can't get back far enough to use a regular lens, you have two choices -- use a wide angle lens or shoot a panorama. Before computers, the wide angle lens was the obvious choice, but they were expensive, and one more piece of gear to carry.Panorama software for computers makes this easy. It's inexpensive and you can use any camera to shoot the individual pictures that will be spliced together.
