This face was in the Museo Arqueológico Nacional in Madrid. We were actually looking for the modern art museum which, according to our map, was located in one of those great old buildings. Well, we walked all the way around the block looking for the entrance. Then again, thinking we must have missed it. But all we saw was the entrance to the archeological museum.Any museum is better than none, so we went in. The guy at the desk was a bit of a martinet and made us check our bags, but let me keep my camera. It's interesting that different museums have different policies about letting you take pictures, and even with the same museum, it can change from room to room, depending on what they're showing. This old stone face had a fascinating expression, perhaps unhappy with the quality of the human sacrifices it was getting. Combined with the overhead lighting, it was an interesting statement. In finishing off this image, I fiddled with the contrast and the tonal balance to bring out the detail. Then I added the color that you might see if viewing this terrible face in a bloody sunset.
