The country around here is very hilly. Not with the precipitous drops that you get in San Francisco. More like a roller coaster, with a continuous series of ups and downs.

This is a road near our house. I took the picture with the zoom lens at a long focal length. This compresses the perspective and exaggerates the effect of the hills. You can see the undulations of the road all the way to one final hill, way in the distance. This view is looking east, in the direction of Washington, DC, about 30 miles from this point.

Notice that the yellow lines, seen in the foreground, are not seen in the parts of the road in the distance. This is because the road, after a short distance further, turns into an unpaved gravel road. This is true of many of the roads in this rural area.
